  • About the song There There Now: "A refreshing sound overall."
  • About the song In My Heart: "I mean really, songs like this don’t get much better."
  • About the song Wallbanger: "very original and fresh, not to mention funky, and sounds like nothing else on the album"
  • About the album as a whole: "There are a lot of layers, textures and rhythms on The Human Touch, too many to categorize into any one style. But if you like variety in music with songs about themes that are of huge importance these days, I would suggest checking out Adrian West."

The It List for weekend of July 20-22, 2018

STARRY PLOUGH Three East Bay bands feature at the Starry Plough on Saturday in what the pub describes as a “multi-cultural night of music.” Piwai is a mbira (thumb piano) player, singer and composer from Zimbabwe. She’ll lead her band in a fusion of traditional African styles with jazz, funk, blues and reggae. The Adrian West Band plays acoustic rock with touches of West African and classical music. They also feature local rapper Yogi B. Swagga. Solate, which played at Berkeleyside’s Uncharted Berkeley Festival of Ideas last year (pictured left), do soul music with Latin influences. Saturday, July 21, 8 p.m., Starry Plough, 3101 Shattuck Ave.

Fri Feb. 16, 2018 in Berkeleyside:

The It List for weekend of Feb 16-19, 2018

RACHEL EFRON & ADRIAN WEST Two of the Bay Area’s most prolific singer/songwriters team up for the first time for a one-night event at The Back Room on Saturday. Rachel Efron is the songwriting teacher at the California Jazz Conservatory, and she’ll perform with Aaron Germain on upright bass and Jeremy Steinkoler on drums. Adrian West seems to be a bit of a card. “When asked what kind of music The Adrian West Trio plays, Adrian sometimes answers ‘Yes.’ Or if he’s feeling cocky, he’ll answer ‘Good.'” More helpfully, it’s described as a “quirky and infectious mix” that is in the space between acoustic rock and World music. He’ll be playing with Scott Keller on drums and vocals and Kevin Goldberg on bass. Saturday, Feb. 17, 8 p.m., The Back Room, 1984 Bonita Ave.
